Brett Ratner to Direct “Roots”

Brett Ratner

Brett Ratner has been the butt of many jokes in recent years, but truth be told - the man is the ruler of tentpole blockbusters. Recently, however, he has decided it would be best for him to make a big, important, ginormous feature that would finally make the rest of the industry stand up and realize that he is a true auteur. That is why he has decided to helm a remake of the television series - “Roots“:

Dude, I was talking to Russel (Simmons) and he told me - “Brett, do Roots”, and so I am. I was throwing a monstrous party at my house, as I always am, and nearly everyone in Hollywood under the age of 30 was at it. Anyhow, they all signed on.

Simmons, however, is extremely shocked by the news. Russell Simmons is a man who is best known for starting Def Jam records, and basically making hip-hop music what it is today, tells us this about his conversation with the director:

Russell Simmons

Right, so I was talking to Brett a couple of weeks ago and he was stressin’ about Rush Hour 3. I told him that he needed to get back to his roots. I meant that he should make another music video, or something like that. I don’t know why, but he thought I meant that he should direct Roots. I don’t know what the hell he’s thinking.

Ratner has scoured every corner of Hollywood to find the perfect actor to portray the film’s lead - Kunta Kinte. At first, he spoke with African born actor, Djmon Hounsou. However, Ratner decided not to go with his first choice:

You see Djmon, he just wasn’t authentic enough. I needed someone who knows how to fully immerse himself in his craft. Someone who can feel what it’s like to be an African tribesman, and then enslaved. I needed the best.

And so, he got the best method actor known to man - Daniel Day-Lewis. Day-Lewis, one of the most selective actors in Hollywood, is always an Oscar favorite, and loved by critics everywhere.

Kunta Kinte

Above is the first photo we have of the English actor portraying Kunta Kinte. He looks just like a slave, right? Crazy…it’s unbelieveable how much he looks like LeVar Burton. It’s like they’ve gotten into a time machine and traveled back 30 years, and had LeVar become a white man, and then traveled back and had him play the role all over again.

The film will also star Ratner’s good friends: Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Naomi Campbell, Jamie Foxx, Perez Hilton (from perezhilton.com), Will Smith, Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, Scarlett Johansson, and new American Idol phenom - Antonella Barba.

(On a personal note: Say my name, say my name…if no one is around you, say, “Baby, I love you”…man…I can’t get enough of that song….Beyonce smells.)
